 ARUBA

After acquiring WIFI sensor company, Cape Networks, Aruba planned to launch an updated WIFI sensor under its own brand.

The project aimed to create a unique sensor offering that felt at home in high-end corporate offices while also offering streamlined functionality for installers and IT professionals.

Role: Lead Designer

Year: 2019

Goals

01

Unique

This device aimed to differentiate itself in a crowded landscape of white boxes.

02

Intuitive

The setup and install process needed to be as streamlined as possible, with the final result being a product that offers all essential information with no extra clutter.

03

Invisible

This product is intended to blend seamlessly into its environment and only be noticed when needed.

Concept Development

The driving idea behind the concept generation was creating something architectural and unique. This would be a new type of product on the market and its form needed to differentiate it from common associations that have been developed around networking devices. This led towards a tall, linear form factor that used surface articulation to create a sense of movement within the device.

Design Development

This device would need to be able to mount easy to various types of common wall boxes in addition to be able to be used table-top. We prototyped different mounting mechanisms and landed on a single wall-plate that also acts as the base for when using on a table. The mount also offers added security so that the unit cannot be tampered with without the removal of a security screw.

Final Design

The final design is a sleek and architectural device that feels natural both on the wall and on the table. The device has an almost invisible mounting bracket and allows for secure mounting and easy installation and removal when needed.
