Endless One
Endless One is a low-cost desktop computer that is designed to be friendly and personable for people who are otherwise intimidated by technology. Its playful shape and use of color allow it to be a statement piece in the homes of its target market.
Role: Lead designer
Year: 2015
Goals
01
Unique
The use of natural materials were aimed at creating a device that was inviting and stood out from a market of black boxes.
02
On Brand
The Mission brand had established itself with its use of bamboo and patterns to create a modern looking computer. Mission mini looked to elevate that aesthetic.
03
Accessible
Mission mini would need to be significantly cheaper than its predecessor to be accessible to a larger market.
Concept Development
Given the initial brief and aesthetic direction from the CEO, I took his initial idea and mock-up and fleshed out more iterations to refine the design. The goal was to keep the device playful and approachable. We went to the ground for testing these directions in rural areas of Rio De Janeiro and Guatemala.
Design Development
Prototypes were made to test size, venting, indicator lights, and create functional prototypes to take into the field for testing with potential users.
Packaging Design
The packaging brief was to create a package that was both unique and presented the device to the user. After many iterations, it was decided upon a diagonally opening box that utilized both sides to showcase the product and the rest of the contents of the package.
Final Design
The final form of the Endless One is both personable, and elegant. It is purposefully rounded so that nothing can be placed on top of it, and features a power button that is reached from placing your hand on top of the device. It features a number of other aesthetic details such as venting and over-molded feet.
